What is Earth Pedagogy?
Earth Pedagogy is the fruit of a deep and sensitive collaboration between nature, the living and me. It is an education through nature that is wonderful, holistic, profound, integrated, committed and regenerative. It's a vision without boundaries, rooted in the workings and wisdom of nature, to heal, reconcile and reenchant the fascinating bonds that unite us within ourselves, with others and with sacred Mother Earth, our great teacher. Mother Earth provides us with a thousand and one opportunities to marvel, discover and learn about the world around us and the world within each of us. She weaves the billions of visible and invisible links that make up the world. This is Earth Pedagogy. I'm just one of its spokespersons.
Earth Pedagogy awakens easily through direct experiences with the natural world, authentic connection with others and a strong clan, the practice of freedom and free will, free and creative play, useful crafts, caring talking circles, fertile projects, meditation and mindfulness, wild movement, exciting healthy risk-taking, loving care (of self, others and the earth), the cycles of the seasons, precious ceremonies and rituals, wonder in simplicity and much more.
Earth Pedagogy is omnipresent in everything and everywhere: in the still, glistening dewdrops; in the song of the morning birds; in the flow of the river that transports and purifies; in the laughter of children; in the social cooperation of trees, mushrooms, ants or bees; or in the movement of the moon that influences the feminine cycle and the tides.... It's all here. Every day, the Earth invites us to meet her, but also, at the same time, to meet our inner selves.
What's truly extraordinary is that Earth Pedagogy is already within us. Nature is our Mother, and we are her children, alongside all the other living creatures and ecosystems that inhabit the world. We're all part of the same big family. Earth Pedagogy is an ancient, circular and matriarchal approach that asks us to slow down to become more aware, and to find the space and time to be truly sensitive with ourselves, with nature and with our children, who will be co-bearers of this world in their turn.
Earth Pedagogy wants us to work TOGETHER to heal, reconcile and re-enchant the systems and society in which we evolve individually and collectively.
Earth Pedagogy is an invitation from nature to co-create what we wish to see in the world, for ourselves and our children, and for all the generations of living beings to come.
Earth Pedagogy is a sacred and cosmic song that calls for mobilization and change in our modern practices and lifestyles, so that we can rediscover a gentler, fairer, more ethical, sensitive and conscious place on Earth. This is what we have to do together to rediscover harmony, balance and simplicity. This is what children, trees, plants, animals, wind, bees, mountains and oceans expect of us.
